Andy Burnham

The Institute of Event Management is delighted to welcome Andy Burnham as a Patron.

Andy Burnham was elected to the new role of Mayor of Greater Manchester in 2017 and re-elected in 2021. Previously he served in Gordon Brown’s Cabinet as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2007 to 2008, Culture Secretary from 2008 to 2009 and Health Secretary from 2009 to 2010. He was Shadow Home Secretary from 2015 to 2016 and MP for Leigh from 2001 to 2017.

On becoming a Patron, Mr Burnham said:

“I am absolutely delighted to become an IEM patron. Greater Manchester recognises the importance of events to our economy, our places and to our residents and is committed to ensuring the sector has the tools and people it needs to thrive.

“We very much see partnership with IEM as a way to ensure this and look forward to working with the IEM to develop recognised professional standards will help maintain the global pre-eminence of the UK events sector.”
