Founding Partner – University of Suffolk
The University of Suffolk was originally established as University Campus Suffolk (UCS) in 2007 and transformed the provision of higher education in Suffolk and beyond. Subsequently, on the 1 August 2016, the first independent University of Suffolk was officially launched.
It is a transformational university, absorbing the best of UK university traditions and aligning them with a twenty first century audience and a modern world of employment and entrepreneurship. The Suffolk Business School is a new and innovative community impact Business School based at the heart of one of the UK’s fastest city economies in Ipswich.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor Business and Entrepreneurship is developing a five-year strategic plan built around three pillars of learning and teaching: ‘co-designed, co-delivered and co-accredited’. Good linkages are already in place with business, industry and professional bodies and will continue to be strengthened. It is envisaged that industry involvement will be at the core of what the School does, with business leaders involved in programme development and delivery; for example, in the use of case studies, mentoring and visits. There is a strong emphasis on ‘application’ as part of the Event Management courses with authentic learning being achieved through collaborating with industry, practice placement and real-life situational problem solving.
Jonathan Harvey, Programme Leader, explained, “It is intended that each of the Programmes provided by Suffolk Business School will be co-accredited, so students leave with not only a University of Suffolk degree, but also a professional qualification, or recognition, or course exemption. This, we believe, will give our graduates a head start in their chosen career. Therefore, we are delighted to take up this role, be part of the development of the IEM and to provide that opportunity for our Event Management students.”
