Membership Entry

IEM welcomes anyone who is interested in professional event management and calls upon those people to support the work of championing professional recognition and the development of the events sector.

*All members will be expected to adhere to the IEM Code of Professional Conduct.*

There is currently only one route to membership with the IEM and that is…

Affiliate Membership

  • Annual fee of £50
  • No entry criteria

Affiliate, or ‘ungraded’ status, is open to anyone who wishes to be part of the IEM family and is assigned to all members on first joining.  Affiliates will not have voting rights, do not have letter after their name (hence ‘ungraded) and will not be able to hold office in the Institute.

We also hope to be offering an ungraded Student Membership to individuals studying IEM Accredited qualifications or training courses from 2021.

These will be £25 per student per annum (TBC).
Students will not have voting rights and will not be able to hold office in the Institute.
Student Memberships can be upgraded upon graduation to Associate (AIEM) to continue the recognition journey.

Membership Upgrades

We hope to make it possible to upgrade Affiliate memberships very soon.
‘Graded’ members will have full voting rights, will be able to hold office in the Institute and will be allowed to use the following letters after their name:

  • Associate Member (AIEM)
This is the first level of graded membership that confers designatory letters upon an individual.
  • Member (MIEM)
This is the second level of graded membership that confers designatory letters upon an individual.
  • Fellow (FIEM)
This is the third and final level of graded membership that confers designatory letters upon an individual.

  • CPD (Continuous Professional Development in the form of IEM Accredited short courses or Event Management related short courses with recognised learning content)
  • ‘Professional commitment’ (years of IEM membership)

If you have any thoughts or suggestions on the proposed Pathways please get in touch.
