IEM offers a Recognition Scheme for Undergraduate Degrees in Event Management.
This industry backed recognition lasts for a period of five years, or until the course undergoes major changes or revalidation, and allows access to the IEM network and resources.
Industry Support
Supported by senior industry professionals, the IEM Recognition is a sign of the knowledge and skills required by event managers and preparing them for the world of events work.
“Increasingly event management is being identified as a serious profession involving key skills. However, all too often this vital role event managers play can be misunderstood and seen as an unqualified role anyone can do. We know nothing can be further from the truth. The events industry is huge, it plays a major role in supporting the global economy and as such requires highly skilled and motivated people who make things happen and create extraordinary results. Having formal IEM recognition is long overdue. It will demonstrate as an industry we take the development of our people extremely seriously and will further raise the profile and standards of events and how important they are for business, professional and social values.”
Dale Parmenter, CEO of DRP Group and Honorary Fellow of the IEM
“Professionalising our industry is critical in solving the issues around talent – lack of people, lack of knowledge and lack of experience. Aligning grassroots learning with industry need is where the IEM has focussed energy as it seeks to build the professional standards and establish this recognition scheme to validate event management degrees. The Ops Nest is a keen supporter of professional standards to drive progression and brilliance in our sector. I am personally excited to be supporting the Institute of Event Management in taking the first of many steps towards accreditation.”
Lou Kiwanuka, Founder of The Ops Nest, Chair of ESSA and Founding Fellow of the IEM
Academic Support
Developed in collaboration with key academics, IEM Recognition bridges the gap between academia and practice to support students and practitioners and the development of the events industry.
“Professional bodies play a significant role supporting universities to design and develop relevant programmes. The new IEM Recognition Scheme is an important development as it provides a framework to inform universities of current practice in the events management sector. Specifically, the recognition criteria reflect the knowledge and skills IEM believes students wishing to develop a career in events management need. Recognition provides students with confidence that their programme of study meets the expectations of practitioners and provides an excellent foundation for a career in a sector critical to the economic and social well-being of the UK.”
Tim Nichol, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Faculty of Business and Law) at Liverpool John Moores University, Founding Partners of the IEM
