Sharing insight with students

The Institute of Event Management’s Directors are always happy to share knowledge and insights with students at the academic institutions whose courses we recognise.

It’s part of our offer to all departments delivering IEM-recognised courses.

We believe it helps bring students closer to the industry, to practitioners and to the dynamics of an ever-changing market.

Our Director of Communications Andrew Shields spent the morning with third-year students on the BSc (Hons) Business, Hospitality and Events Management degree course at ARU London as part of their ‘Contemporary Issues’ module.

Andrew’s presentation – ‘Big! Bigger!! Biggest!!! Exploring the dimensions of major events’ – included UK Sport’s ‘Making Live Sport Matter’ framework, the UK’s imminent Major Events Strategy which will also cover cultural and business events, and career opportunities within this exciting part of the events sector.

A lively Q&A session ranged from bidding processes to mass event catering, and working on events about which you may have moral or ethical issues.

The IEM’s recognition programme for higher education courses in event management disciplines provides industry-authored benchmarks for what a ‘good’ course should deliver, and gives independent and authoritative recognition of courses that meet those goals.
