Looking back over the first year of IEM

Point of View: Paul Cuthbert

Paul Cuthbert
Senior Manager – UK at Glasgow Convention Bureau

As part of our commitment to championing the industry, we are talking to people about their careers and what IEM means to them.

Paul has worked with Glasgow Convention Bureau for 13 years and prior to this worked with Hotel sales.  He is responsible for leading the UK team and his main priorities are identifying and securing conferences to generate economic benefit to the city of Glasgow, then providing bespoke support to organisers to help them achieve their objectives.

Q What does the IEM mean to you?
A The IEM to me provides opportunities for individuals and organisations to develop themselves via high level partnership and networks, which in-turn will benefit the events industry as a whole.

Q Why did you decide it was important for you to get involved?
A We are always looking for opportunities to widen our networks and partnerships. Due to the pandemic, we feel more than ever that this is the case. It seems that the IEM is a good fit for us and we hope to be able to help the Institution on its journey.

Q Where do you hope to see the IEM in 20 years’ time?
A It would be good to see the IEM as a key organisation within the development of the events industry, that professionals are proud to be a part of.

Q What is your favourite event related memory?
A Attending a five day IAPCO course in Zurich, the people, venue, content, socials, and scenery were first class!
