Headline: Deadline extended for the final time!

We are still getting enquiries for our Founding Fellow/Partner offer and therefore are delighted to advise that the deadline is being extended, one last time, to ensure that everyone who wants to get involved can.

We are extremely grateful for this interest and practical support, which we very much need.

The new deadline for applications is 30th November.  We will, as promised, announce the Founding Fellows and Founding Partners to date at our inaugural AGM on 19th October, and additional support after the final closing date – we can then champion the Events Profession together.

Diary: Join us at PlanetIMEX

In the midst of a pandemic which shut down events with such ferocity at the beginning of the year, there is no better time than now – as we slowly and cautiously view the future – to launch the professional body for event management.

We are honoured to be invited to join the global family of PlanetIMEX 2020.  This Session is an opportunity for you to learn how the IEM will support and help develop the thousands of event professionals around the world seeking to redefine their role. The IEM is being established to provide professional recognition, continuing professional development and a body of knowledge.  In addition it will be a resource for those who need to know more about events for business, economic, professional and social impact.

IEM at PlanetIMEX on 16th October 2020

Please note session timing 12:00h to 13:00h ET   [17:00h to 18:00h UK]

Welcome and Introductions chaired by Calum di Lieto, Editor C&IT Global

Talking Points – Open Session

A look at how the reputation of the events sector needs to carry more weight with  government, businesses and individuals.

Topic 1. Influencing  government The industry struggles to prove its worth within governments across the world, due to the value of events being diluted within each sector  they operate in, or due to falling under the wider umbrella of ‘tourism’.  Why is this a problem and what can be done to create a stronger voice?

Topic 2. Business perceptions
The events sector is hyper-competitive due to very few barriers to entry. Therefore event agencies can launch and compete for business against long-established competitors with very few hurdles in place. This does however make it difficult to assess talent at a business and individual level. What can be done to overcome this issue when it comes to both client acquisition and talent acquisition?

Topic 3. Individual exposure
Professionals in the events sector often fall into this occupation and then just work their way up. But the industry is constantly evolving, requiring individuals to have their own Continuous Professional Development programme (much like other disciplines). How can individuals further develop their skills and rise in their careers?  How can the sector bring entry-level talent into events more smoothly and in a way that creates a more professional delivery from the very beginning?

Participants in the Session are invited to put their comments and questions on these topics ahead of the session or on the day.

The new deadline for applications is 14th October and we will, as promised, announce the Founding Fellows and Founding Partners at our inaugural AGM on 19th October – we can then champion the Events Profession together.

Headline: Invitation to become a Founding Fellow/Partner

We are sure you will be pleased to hear that the Institute of Event Management will be open for members from 19th October 2020, and not a moment too soon!  Unfortunately, due to the current crisis, we have not been successful in getting any seed funding from the government, as we had originally hoped, and we are sure you will appreciate that although we have great support and pro bono work moving us forward, we still require some cash to get us up and running.  To this end, we are seeking Founding Fellows/Founding Partners.

What is a Founding Fellow?

A Founding Fellow is someone with a pedigree in the events industry and who is able to take on an ambassadorial role for the IEM.   The IEM Directors are looking for individuals who would champion professional event management under our banner.  Founding Fellow status is an exclusive opportunity to have your name on our website, PR, contribute to our development and join in our success story.

What is a Founding Partner?

Similarly, a Founding Partner is an organisation with a pedigree in Event Management or Event Management Education and able to champion the professionalisation of the industry.  Again the IEM Directors are looking for organisations who would champion professional event management under our banner.  Founding Partner status is an exclusive opportunity to have your logo prominent on our website, PR, contribute to our development and join in our success story.

What does it involve?

A one-off fee of £1000 will give you Founding Fellow or Partner status including, one years FIEM status for individuals.  This is a limited time offer, closing on 30th November, with limited availability.  We are asking for a CV from individuals or a Business Profile from organisations and a 500 word statement of suitability to apply for Founding status, which we will also use in our promotional materials.  Once up and running we hope to work with you to develop IEM and champion professional event management with your support and full recognition.

If you would like to take us up on this offer, or just find out more, then please email – susan.spibey@iem.institute

It isn’t just IEM who needs you.  It is your profession that needs you, now more than ever.

Director at Framework Media Ltd

As part of our commitment to championing the industry, we are talking to people about their careers and what IEM means to them.

Ashley Jones successfully launched and established marketingSHOWCASE over six years ago.  Recognising that marketers are some of the busiest in the office – stuck between meetings, deadlines and incoming calls – he managed to bring together a show that would entice them out to network and learn at events across the UK.  More recently he has moved the event online and continues to deliver all the important things a marketer needs to keep up-to-date and relevant.

Q What does the IEM mean to you?
A The IEM is a really, really good idea.  If two brains are better than one, well creating a community of event organisers and like-minded professionals can’t be a bad thing, right?

Q Why did you decide it was important for you to get involved?
A A place to share ideas, knowledge and strive to create brilliant events – together!

Q Where do you hope to see the IEM in 20 years time?
A A bustling group of successful event organisers. A quality education programme recognised by people outside of our industry.

Q What is your favourite event-related memory?
A Joining our family exhibition business at a young age, seeing the very first exhibition set-up was pretty special. A small one but I love getting feedback after hearing from delegates or exhibitor that they’ve taken away true value from an event.
